Tech packs & technical documentation

What you take forward

A versioned tech pack that records the agreed product decisions and gives your manufacturer a consistent reference to work from.

01

A clear reference for your garment

A design sketch rarely contains every decision a sample maker needs. The tech pack connects the appearance of the garment with its construction and measurement requirements. If some details are still open, we identify them at the start and agree how to resolve them.

02

What your tech pack can include

  • Technical flat drawings with front, back and relevant detail views.
  • Seam and stitch specifications, construction notes and detail callouts.
  • A bill of materials covering fabrics, trims and components, with the information available for each item.
  • Colourways and the agreed colour references.
  • A measurement specification with points of measure, measurement instructions and tolerances where applicable.
  • A dated version and a record of the agreed updates.
03

Start with what you have

Share your sketches, references, existing files or a sample, together with your intended materials, base size and manufacturer requirements. Existing documentation can be reviewed and completed. If your product still needs design development, we can combine this service with 3D design or pattern making.

04

How we work

  1. Review the style, available information and decisions still to be made.
  2. Agree the document contents, delivery format, review rounds and schedule.
  3. Prepare the draft and collect your comments in a consolidated review.
  4. Deliver the agreed version and complete any manufacturer clarification included in the scope.
05

A practical example

For a casual overshirt, the pack could describe the pocket position, collar construction, seam finishes, button details and garment measurements alongside the technical drawings. This is an illustrative scope; the contents are adapted to each style.

Practical details

Before we begin.

Deliverables, review rounds, schedule and fee are agreed in your proposal.

Can you work from a sketch or reference images?

Yes. We first establish which product decisions are already defined. Any design work needed to turn references into a specific garment is included explicitly in the proposal.

Does a tech pack include patterns and grading?

Pattern files and grading are separate deliverables. A measurement table records garment specifications; it does not itself create a graded set of patterns. These services can be quoted together.

How many revisions are included?

The proposal states the review rounds and any manufacturer clarification included. Consolidated comments help keep the document consistent. Changes to the design or agreed brief may require an updated scope; corrections to Flatfell's own errors do not use your review allowance.

Can you update an existing tech pack?

Yes. Share the current document and the changes you need. We can quote an update, a completion of missing sections or a more substantial rebuild after reviewing the files.

How is the price calculated?

The quote depends on garment complexity, the information already available, the required drawings, variants and review work. You receive a written scope, fee and schedule before work begins.
